Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies recently announced that the Gunnison Health Care Center, a 100-employee health care facility in Gunnison, Colo., is using Schlage bright blue Web-enabled access control software and both Schlage wired and wireless proximity card readers to limit access throughout the facility.
Brivo Systems LLC, provider Web applications for access control and security systems, recently announced that Atlanta-based The RADCO Companies, a coast-to-coast developer specializing in complicated real estate transactions and workouts, has deployed Brivo ACS WebService at The Met at Warner Center in Woodland Hills, Calif.
When the Middlesex County Superior Court in Massachusetts wanted to improve security, county officials went all out by installing state-of-the-art equipment in the new facility. The solution keeps everyone in mind when monitoring numerous locations, including jury members, people in holding cells, victims, witnesses and bar advocates. Judges and court staff also benefit from the long reach of security.

The King Fahd Industrial Port at Yanbu on the Red Sea coast is the Saudi sea gateway for Europe and the fastest developing industrial area in Saudi Arabia. Its CCTV monitoring system, which has to provide high security for valuable cargos and infrastructure, has recently been upgraded with Geutebruck servers, management system, video analysis and GUI to replace a previous IP solution whose performance had proved disappointing.

Port of Portland will install a Symmetry Homeland Security Edition System in the new structure which will consist of seven stories of parking space with an additional three top stories of Port office space. GTSI Corp., an enterprise infrastructure solutions and services provider to government, was recently awarded a $7 million contract by the Port of Oakland's Commissioners. The contract calls for GTSI to upgrade the port's existing perimeter security system and also install a fiber optic communications system. The Security Industry Association has endorsed a new bill that would improve security at wastewater treatment plants. The “Wastewater Treatment Works Security Act of 2009” (H.R. 2883), introduced by Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson, D-Texas, on June 16, would authorize $200 million in annual Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) grants through 2014 for certain security enhancements and would require security assessments of wastewater treatment plants that include a site security plan.

While federal security requirements like the Transportation Workers Identification Credential program are designed with the safety of the nation in mind, adhering to them can be a costly and time-consuming task. The goal of the TWIC program is to ensure that anyone who has unescorted access to secure areas of U.S. port facilities and vessels has received a thorough background check and is not a known security threat.
